Shopping Skills at JPC Care

Going shopping is an important life skill — but for many people, it can also feel overwhelming. From handling money and interacting with others, to making choices and understanding products, the process can present real challenges.

At JPC Care, we aim to make shopping an enjoyable and stress-free experience, while supporting our service users to build confidence and independence. Every step of the journey — from writing a list, to visiting the store, purchasing items, and using appropriate language — is a valuable learning opportunity.

Learning Along the Way

During shopping sessions, service users practice:

  • Writing a shopping list to prepare and plan ahead.

  • Reading labels to understand ingredients and expiry dates.

  • Making choices that suit their needs and budget.

  • Communicating politely with shop staff and other shoppers.

These activities not only teach practical skills but also build social confidence and independence.

More Than Just Shopping
